Dissidia, and More TV-5 Anime

December 20, 2008 · 12 Comments

Dissidia is awesome. The crossover fun is humongous and there’s a lot to do in the game. I daresay it’s one of the more enjoyable Squenix games I’ve played of late. The game mechanics are slick and can get technical with blocking/dodging/running the hell out of the way stuff. Also, UOORIA OPU RAITO. Best generic character name ever.

Perhaps the best hook for me is Terra (or Tina in the JP version), who is voiced by Yukari Fukui. And Onion Knight is totally hitting on her without her even noticing it, ho ho ho.

Kowd Jiss (or how Filipino otaku rage at TV-5)

So I watched Code Geass R1 on Philippine TV today. I’ll go out on a limb to say that it’s good. Good, by abysmal Animax Philippines/Hero TV standards. I liked it. I enjoyed it. My 20-odd minutes were not wasted.

I’m sure the fansub Geass fans are raging all across the country. I can give you that. They’d rather die than have their beloved show turn mainstream. Because an anime stops being cool when everyone and their mother likes it, right?

Ghibli Week Start! Also, Philippine Code Geass

November 9, 2008 · 9 Comments

Thanks to the prodding of some blogs, I decided to go sample the wonderful world of Studio Ghibli this week. Having only seen Grave of the Fireflies beforehand, which left me incredibly depressed (until I got someone else to watch it, lol), I’ve never seen anything else.

I helped myself to Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind today. It was just as what I expected, and more. By the end of the movie, I was already suppressing girly tears, in which the timely arrival of magical healing tentacle rape cured. Only by Ghibli. Given how many shows I’ve been following this month, Nausicaa left a big impression on me, with a toxic, beautiful post-apocalyptic world. I’m a sucker for anime-created worlds, and it just shows. Is it even wrong that I find ohmu adorable? Because they’re just scared, enraged, and it’s obviously our fault!
