Karaoke and the Otaku Couple Duet

Last Saturday, I went to sing weeaboo karaoke with my friends, as we would frequently do. Now, I sang Cross Fight, which was a hot-blooded duet by anison masters Ichiro Mizuki and Mitsuko Horie. Having no companion with two X chromosomes to sing along with me, it wasn’t as lively as it should be.

This was a shame. An incentive to look for an otaku girlfriend? I wish. But it got me thinking that there are quite a number of duets in anison, and it would be interesting to hear a couple sing them.

Which brings me to my question for you readers: if you were to sing an anime song with a member of the opposite sex, what would you sing?

Amazingly enough, my female friend sang that… Steve Conte’s part, that is. 😛

I should learn it, lest I lose credibility about RahXephon being one of my favorite anime ever.

yep, that one is good for many different reasons, and that “girls like it” is one of them.

Sakura Taisen has a few other good romantic duets, but those might be kind of tough.

Steve Conte, James Wendt, Scott Matthew… same range, master one, you’ve mastered them all. They sound soooo alike too, it’s like Yoko Kanno intentionally chose guys who had that timbre/tone to their singing voice.

Reverse Garden of Everything duet was amusing.

As for the question I’ve already sung the only couple tokusong I want to duet with, which is Climax Jump. Though deep inside I really just want to sing Yatta.

    • Owen S says:

FFFFFFFFFF I can’t believe I missed that one.

GONG by JAM project. Accept no substitutes.

Not exactly anime, nor can I even hope to hit the notes, but this inevitable travesty of a song would surely be as magical for the singers as it would be agonizing to those within an earshot of us.

  3. Beautiful World by Utada Hikaru

Think of it in the context of an otaku couple singing to each other and the lyrics become heart meltingly beautiful, even more so than it was already.

I tend to think of a scenario with two borderline hikkis who slowly draw each other out of their shells and see how beautiful everything actually is.

Starting from “I can’t really see the point of Paris.” to “I can see the point of Paris if I’m with you.”

    That sort of thing.

I’m probably stealing Ghostlightning’s thunder, but:

I did not realize I made a terrible pun until now.

Also, I’m implying we’d do the full version of the song, but alternate every two lines following this song’s example.

  5. If at all possible, I’m choose to do the Kurenai ep 6 insert song. We’d each have several assigned roles.

    Dueto desu!

  6. So, do any of you guys commenting here feel like making a medley?

The 2nd op from Godannar. Just because.
